THE AUBERGE DU TROUBADOUR

Located between Vals-les-Bains and Antraigues, in a small hamlet
in the volcanic foothills of the Plateau Ardéchois,
the southeastern edge of the Massif Central,
the Auberge du Troubadour is an old stone farmhouse dating from 1670,
originally owned by a tax collector and retaining many original features.
It is being lovingly converted and modernized
by its cosmopolitan owner to preserve the beauty of its tradition
while introducing the best of the comforts of modern living.
Once restoration is complete, the home will provide guest accommodation
consisting of one apartment for up to 4 people,
two lofts for up to 4 people, and three double rooms,
in a setting that includes fruit trees, meadows,
and the terraced landscape typical of the region,
with paces leading to a secluded stream at the edge of the 3.25 acre property.

Guests have the option to select from several plans:
Bed and Breakfast, Hôtel de Charme or Gîtes (self catering accommodation).

Ultimately, amenities on site will include a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and sauna,
thus making the Auberge du Troubadour the ideal year-round retreat.

The first phase opens in the summer of 2003
with an apartment for up to 4 people, named Fauna.
It has a private entrance via a small terrace , an entry/dining/kitchenette area on the ground floor
and, upstairs, a large bedroom area , a sitting room area
with a sofa bed,
and a fully tiled Victorian style bathroom
with some ultramodern touches.
Fauna is decorated in a country turn-of-the-century style,
with antique furniture and a discreet animal theme.
The traditional period windows, set in the thick stone walls,
allow views of the surrounding wooded hill and mountain countryside.
Large skylights make the rooms particularly bright and sunny.

The sounds of nature - birdsong, crickets, the wind in the chestnut trees
and the soothing rushing of the brooks and the river -
will refresh your inner being, cradle you into slumber and wake you up gently.
Clean air, clear skies and dark nights studded with myriad stars,
a real gift to amateur astronomers and stargazing lovers of all ages,
will draw you into a different world far from city cares.

Breakfast and meals are provided on site
as part of the Bed and Breakfast or Hôtel de Charme plans.
For those guests on the self-catering plan
who prefer the chance to sample local restaurants and pavement cafés,
fine meals can be found in either the nearby artists' village of Antraigues (5 minutes by car)
or in lovely Vals-les-Bains, a turn of the century spa town (10 minutes by car).
For added convenience, a "travelling grocer" includes the Auberge in his round twice a week.
Shops of all kinds as well as pharmacies, doctors,
Post Office and cash machines can be found in Vals and Antraigues.

The immediate surroundings are ideal for walking, hiking and cycling.
A stream at the bottom of the property is the perfect place
for bucolic rock pool bathing in completely privacy.
Another path descends to the main road and thence to a natural swimming pool
approximately 100 m long in a deep canyon section of the Volane,
a tributary of the Ardèche river. This spot can also easily be accessed by car in just 5 minutes.
